Why We Started

About Us
In the past, when someone was pregnant, giving birth, or recovering postpartum, neighbors, family, and friends would take turns coming over to help with daily needs.
Going through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period abroad can bring many worries, especially in today's world where it's easy to feel isolated. We are a community where people support one another in many ways so you can go through this time with a little more peace of mind.
What BB360 Means & How It Began
The name Birth and Beyond 360 (BB360) carries our wish that, for at least about a year before and after birth, people can receive warm care and focused support from their community.
The name is also full of our hopes: a community "circle" where kindness flows all the way around, 360 degrees, and "BB" can also be read as "Baby."
Our two founders are birth doulas. There's a limit to how many people we can support as doulas ourselves, but if we nurture people with a "doula mind" (a doula-like wish to watch over others), support can reach much further! That's why we started this community.
What is a birth doula?
From pregnancy on, the doula stays by the client's side, listens fully to their worries, shares information about their concerns and thinks through the best path together, practices exercises and breathing with them, and refers them to local specialists when needed, all in preparation for birth.
Once labor begins, the doula stays by your side and encourages you all the way from home to the hospital. Medical staff may change with shifts, but a doula stays with one client the whole time.
After birth, we help with housework and baby care, and care for the client and family, so the new family can settle into life with confidence.
In other words, a birth doula is a professional who can provide care all the way from pregnancy through postpartum.
But don't you think most of this support is something anyone can give?
Each kind of care — like helping with housework or listening to someone's worries — is something friends and the community can do, too.
If you need full care, we'll introduce you to a doula, but if it's "just meals" or "just information," a volunteer can do that too. Then the whole community becomes a "doula." No one person has to do it all.
